Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids by removing skin or fat from either the upper and/or lower eyelid area. Whether you want to improve your appearance or are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the areas surrounding your eyes.
When to consider eyelid surgery:
- Impaired vision due to the eyelid area having excess skin or fat
- You have loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid
- Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
Preparing for the procedure
Prior to the procedure, the patient will meet with one of our two board certified plastic surgeons to discuss their goals for the procedure. Our doctors will then provide you with specific pre-opt instructions.
Fortunately, patients are looking at a short recovery time after blepharoplasty. Although bruising and swelling is usually worst on the day after the surgery, it will reduce will time and using the appropriate materials given to you by the doctors. Most people can return to normal activities after 7-10 days following the procedure. Around the two-week mark, bruising and swelling should only be minimal.
