Neck Lift Surgery

If you’ve had a facelift, or you just have a young-looking face, your skin probably appears taut, supple, and relatively line-free. From the chin down, however, it may be a different story.

For many people, the neck is the first area to show age. For people who have lost weight, an unfortunate side effect may be loose, hanging skin that has lost its elasticity. Whether it is band lines, excess skin, or fat, a neck lift can bring your neck back into shape and restore your youthful appearance.

A neck lift can include a variety of procedures to enhance the appearance of your neck. Procedures can include:

  • Removing excess skin (Cervicoplasty)
  • Removal, tighten, or altering neck muscles (Platysmaplasty)
  • Liposuction to remove excess fat
  • Botox injections to address problems with fullness or “bands”

If you choose to have the procedure done, please remember that it may take several weeks for the swelling to fully go away and up to six months for the incision lines to mature. Once the swelling and bruising subside, the visible improvements of the neck lift will appear. Your final results should provide you with a youthful and rested appearance, but also help you feel more confident about yourself. Following the steps of recovery provided by your plastic surgeons is essential to seeing the success of the procedure.

During the recovery process, a bandage may be worn around the face and neck to minimize swelling and bruising. You will be given specific instructions on how to care for the wounds along with medication to be taken for the pain to aid healing and reduce infection. Most people are able to return to work in about 1-2 weeks. However, normal activity should not take place until 4-6 weeks after the procedure takes place. Everyone’s body reacts different, please use your own discretion on what you think is best for you along with recommendations from your doctor.
