Is Eyelid Surgery Right for You?

Eyelid Surgery Right

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure that can improve the appearance of the eyelids. As we age, the delicate skin around the eyes may begin to sag, giving the face a droopy or fatigued appearance. For many, eyelid surgery can help achieve a more youthful, defined look to the area around the eyes.

How does Eyelid Surgery work?

Eyelid lift surgery can involve the removal of excess skin, fat, or muscle tissue from around the eye through an invisible incision. In some cases, all three may be removed as needed. Each surgery is tailored by the surgeon to meet the specific needs of the patient to achieve the desired outcome. Surgery may be performed on either the lower or upper lid, or in some cases, both. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis.

Why is it done?

People often consider eyelid surgery to improve:

  • Excess skin/bags under the eyes
  • Fine lines and wrinkles on the lower eyelid
  • Puffiness from fatty deposits in the eyelids
  • Drooping lower eyelids

Results

Many patients achieve a more youthful, “rested” appearance to the eye area following eyelid surgery. Some even report an improvement in their overall field of vision following the procedure. For most, the surgery offers a more permanent solution to the problem of droopy eyes compared to procedures such as Botox. Common side effects of the surgery are bruising and slight swelling around the eyes, which typically fades in 10-14 days.
