Types of Fillers at Ohio Plastic Surgery Specialists

Injectable fillers, also called dermal fillers, can be used to plump lips, smooth wrinkles and folds, fill in undereye bags. They can also add volume to cheeks and reduce the appearance of pitted acne scars.

Dermal fillers resemble the natural hyaluronic acid present in the body. Facial (Injectable) Fillers can be classified into various types depending upon the main component used. Hyaluronic acid is the most popular filler ingredient, but fillers can also be made of collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, polymethyl methacrylate or fat that’s grafted from your own body.

We use many types of fillers including Juvederm, Restylane, Restylane Silk, Radiesse, Fat grafting and Kybella depending on the desired result and area being treated. We consider various factors like age, skin texture, condition, etc. before recommending a product for you.

Juvederm is one of the hyaluronic acid based Facial Fillers. It is developed by using Hylacross technology. This technology is helpful in producing soft and smooth gel. The soft and smooth consistency of the gel makes sure that the gel flows freely into the skin. Juvederm adds volume to lift and contour the face. While it remains for a longer period of time, it is not permanent.

Restylane fillers are also divided into different products that target specific areas for treatment. It may require a few days more to take effect, when compared to Juvéderm.  Restylane Silk volumizes lips and smooths fine lines around your mouth and lasts about six months. Restylane Refyne softens nasolabial folds and can last up to a year. Restylane Defyne fills deep wrinkles and folds, lasting up to a year. Restylane Lyft is used for cheeks and results can last up to 18 months.

Radiesse is made of calcium-based microspheres and works well on facial wrinkles and the backs of hands. It lasts about a year.  It is often used to augment cheekbones and jawlines.

Kybella is made of synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. It is often used to reduce the look of a double chin.

Facial fat transfer, or fat grafting, uses fat from your hips, thighs or stomach to add volume to cheeks and lips or to fill in nasolabial folds or under-eye tear troughs. This does require a longer downtime and going under anesthesia.
