Breast Augmentation

Types of Implant for Your Breast Augmentation

Choosing an implant can feel stressful. While your doctor will be the best person to help you answer this question, having an idea of what you want from your breast augmentation will guide you in making this decision.

Saline:

Saline Implants contain a natural saltwater solution that is filled by your surgeon to achieve the right size. Saline implants are slightly firmer than silicone implants. Saline implants generally cost less than silicone implants. When a person chooses saline implants, a yearly check-up is required to make sure there is no puncture wounds or leaks in the implant.

Silicone:

Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel to a set volume. Silicone Gel implants have an identical shape and feel similar to natural breasts. While they typically cost more than saline implants, they do tend to have a better chance of holding their shape if a puncture wound occurs.

Memory Gel:

MemoryGel® Breast Implants come in either a textured or smooth surface shell and are available in a wide range of sizes. MemoryGel is a choice among patients and surgeons. Each implant is filled with Mentor’s cohesive gel that holds together uniformly and retains a natural give that better resembles breast tissue. Because the implants have a set-fill volume, the results are predictable and come in four projection options: Moderate Classic, Moderate Plus, High and Ultra High Profile. The shells can be smooth or textured.

Gummy Bear:

The consistency of the silicone gel inside the gummy bear implant is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants. These implants are also firmer than traditional implants.  These implants are designed to look like a tear drop, thicker at the bottom and tapered towards the top to mimic the shape of an actual breast. To maintain this shape, the silicone gel in the implant is firmer towards the top. The gummy bear implants are designed to hold their shape better which will ultimately reduce the amount of times you will need to get a breast lift done, saving you time and money. All implants have the possibility of rupturing or leaking but due to the thickness of the gel in the gummy bear implant, the chances are exceptionally low.

Choosing an implant will effect the amount of times you have to get a breast lift or implant replacement so make sure you consider all the possibilities before committing to one for your breast augmentation.
